Beckett is 9 1/2 years old and finishing 3rd grade online due to COVID-19.
We had him retest for the Discovery program and he will be been placed in the Cougar classroom again next year. He seems to be under challenged and we hope 4th grade will provide a more rigorous curriculum.
Beckett is currently reading Lord of the Rings. His dad is seriously challenging him with this one as it is 1000+ pages and a serious undertaking. His interest seems to wane depending on his mood but he's continuing to work at it which is really impressive.
Due to COVID-19, conventional classroom learning has changed. Teachers are providing some online instruction but expecting parents to fill the gap. It's been a good challenge to fill the day with a variety of activities using tools and resources from friends/teachers/online etc. Beckett has been utilizing Khan Academy, Typing.com, Fender.com (ukulele lessons), Rosetta Stone (learning Spanish), Bob Ross (painting), How It's Made videos, baking with mom, and planting his very own vegetables (corn, carrots, and lettuce).
Beckett's Spring soccer season was canceled due to the virus pandemic. He had one practice but didn't even have a game before they called the season. So...I guess in the Fall, he'll be back with Cru and coach Lehi since they'll be back together for 3rd/4th grade.
The last 6 months' adventures have included the following:
1) Duthie and Black Diamond bike park - pretty challenging but we did our best!
2) Sledding w Hudson and mommy at Hyak Snow Park
3) Cougar Mountain Zoo (highlight being a white tiger)
4) Luge & X-country skiing in the Methow
5) Skiing at Bachelor in Bend with Simons
Beckett no longer has to wear his bottom retainer and the ortho let him bring it home and smash it with a hammer. (Mommy freaked out thinking he did it on accident). He had to have an emergency ortho visit after biting into a cucumber and breaking a spring exposing a good inch of the braces band. So, he no longer has the teal color, they just look like old school braces. He continues to be diligent (w some frustration) about brushing and using fluoride even though it takes extra time.
Beckett is still our boy who won't eat fruit. He doesn't even like his food to have touched fruit or be near the smell of it. It remains to be seen if he will ever sink his teeth into any food in the fruit group.
"Giraffee" still plays a vital role in Beckett's life. According to B, there is a specific spot near his nose that smells oh-so-good and provides the most comfort. He throws a mean spiral when passing the football w his brother and is now able to do both front and back flips on the trampoline.
We look forward to watching his next stage of development through the rest of the year. It's hard to believe our baby will be in double digits, turning 10 in the Fall.
