Beckett is 10 years old and started 4th grade with Mrs Dye (Hudson's former teacher) online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He homeschooled during the Spring and now the Fall....

Due to the pandemic, Beckett didn't have a typical birthday party. He opted for a "yes" day similar to what Hudson did in the Spring. He too, basically wanted unlimited screen time and junk food. We got Seahawks balloons and Beau made him a giraffe head cupcake cake. It was super cute! Beckett & Hudson devised a competition schedule for the day so we all competed by doing foot and wheelbarrow races, lip sync and dance battles, a talent competition a pillow fight and food challenge. All took place inside as it was raining outside. It was a good low-key way to celebrate at home with just our family.

Beckett continues to excel in all things academic. He just took a Math assessment over the course of 3 days last week and scored 100% every single day! He seems to be under challenged and we wish his curriculum were more rigorous and challenging. His teacher assigned him the book Wonder, from his school library. He is still not super interested in reading and fights us when we make him read in order to enjoy screen time. We're struggling in finding his next good book...

The Fall soccer season was canceled due to the virus pandemic so he's missing some physical activity and socialization he used to get each season. He's been really into football with Hudson and they like to play pass and run plays in the yard w their football gloves on pretending they are NFL players. So cute!

The last 6 months' adventures have included the following:
1) Lots and lots of traveling during the Summer:
    - Bend, Bellingham, Boise, Chelan, Blue Lake (2), Las Vegas, Sedona & Grand Canyon, Montana, Cle
Elum, Camping in Quinalt, Twisp (3), Portland (Mcmenamins Kennedy School)
2) The family trip to Twisp included horse back riding, putt putt golf, and kayaking at Lk Patterson
3) Hikes X 3 (Tradition Lake, Taylor Mountain, Cedar Mountain)

Beckett got his expander taken out at his last ortho appt and we're hopeful he doesn't have to wear his braces too much longer. His teeth look so nice and straight so it's definitely making a difference.

Beckett still maintains his aversion to fruit although Hudson did get him to try a bite of an apple, blueberry, nectarine and watermelon over the Summer. For his birthday challenge competition, he ate a small piece of banana. While he's eaten small bits he's sticking to the fact that he's not a fan of fruit.

Beckett's latest passion is dirt bike riding. He spent a lot of time diligently practicing while in Twisp this last Summer. Then, when he went back to Twisp for a 1:1 trip just he and his dad, papa let him bring two bikes back home. Beau got both boys set up with helmets, goggles, boots, jersey's and gloves and every chance B gets while on a break from Zoom calls during the school day, he's out riding around the property. It warms my heart to watch the boys ride around doing something I spent so much time doing when I was growing up. It's a great way for them to build a new skill set and gain a sense of independence.

"Giraffee" still plays a vital role in Beckett's life. According to B, there is a specific spot near his nose that smells oh-so-good and provides the most comfort. He throws a mean spiral when passing the football w his brother and is now able to do both front and back flips on the trampoline.

We look forward to watching Beckett continue to grow up into a young man. He is funny and fun to be around. He is able to manage his sugar in-take much better and doesn't get crazy wild like he used to. His voice is still fairly high, he still calls me mommy and often asks if he can sleep with me when daddy's at work. I know this stage is fleeting so trying to be present and enjoy all of it while I can.

Beckett is 9 1/2 years old and finishing 3rd grade online due to COVID-19.

We had him retest for the Discovery program and he will be been placed in the Cougar classroom again next year. He seems to be under challenged and we hope 4th grade will provide a more rigorous curriculum.

Beckett is currently reading Lord of the Rings. His dad is seriously challenging him with this one as it is 1000+ pages and a serious undertaking. His interest seems to wane depending on his mood but he's continuing to work at it which is really impressive.

Due to COVID-19, conventional classroom learning has changed. Teachers are providing some online instruction but expecting parents to fill the gap. It's been a good challenge to fill the day with a variety of activities using tools and resources from friends/teachers/online etc. Beckett has been utilizing Khan Academy, Typing.com, Fender.com (ukulele lessons), Rosetta Stone (learning Spanish), Bob Ross (painting), How It's Made videos, baking with mom, and planting his very own vegetables (corn, carrots, and lettuce).

Beckett's Spring soccer season was canceled due to the virus pandemic. He had one practice but didn't even have a game before they called the season. So...I guess in the Fall, he'll be back with Cru and coach Lehi since they'll be back together for 3rd/4th grade.

The last 6 months' adventures have included the following:
1) Duthie and Black Diamond bike park - pretty challenging but we did our best!
2) Sledding w Hudson and mommy at Hyak Snow Park
3) Cougar Mountain Zoo (highlight being a white tiger)
4) Luge & X-country skiing in the Methow
5) Skiing at Bachelor in Bend with Simons

Beckett no longer has to wear his bottom retainer and the ortho let him bring it home and smash it with a hammer. (Mommy freaked out thinking he did it on accident). He had to have an emergency ortho visit after biting into a cucumber and breaking a spring exposing a good inch of the braces band. So, he no longer has the teal color, they just look like old school braces. He continues to be diligent (w some frustration) about brushing and using fluoride even though it takes extra time.

Beckett is still our boy who won't eat fruit. He doesn't even like his food to have touched fruit or be near the smell of it. It remains to be seen if he will ever sink his teeth into any food in the fruit group.

"Giraffee" still plays a vital role in Beckett's life. According to B, there is a specific spot near his nose that smells oh-so-good and provides the most comfort. He throws a mean spiral when passing the football w his brother and is now able to do both front and back flips on the trampoline.

We look forward to watching his next stage of development through the rest of the year. It's hard to believe our baby will be in double digits, turning 10 in the Fall.
