Beckett is 8 years old and starting Fall quarter of second grade.
His teacher is Ms Meeks and he was super excited to get her.
Beckett just wrapped up reading CS Lewis' The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. Tonight for his birthday we're going to rent the movie. On a recent trip to Bellingham his dad bought him Forest Gump which he just started reading. He is starting to do math mountains solving for the missing "partner" in addition and subtraction.
Beckett is in 1st/2nd Grade Fall soccer. He is being coached by Kimana's dad Lehi and Corey is acting as asst coach. His teammates include Kimana and Cru. All the other players are new to him. His team name is the "Sonics" and his jersey is "Kelly Green". The same color Hudson had last season. He has scored 3 goals so far this season and already telling me that it isn't about the snacks this year, he "just really likes playing soccer".
While in Bellingham (Blaine) he and Hudson were swimming in the pool without close supervision and we had no concerns about his confidence in the water or with other kids around. He still opts for the doggie paddle but this last Summer we went to the pool a couple times and mommy worked w him on his strokes so when pressed the capabilities are there and strong.
The last 6 months have been full of adventure:
1) We went to Pacific Raceways to watch the cars drag off the line.
2) We did three 5K races w mommy this Summer (Tukwila, Lake Wilderness, Bubble Run-Puyallup)
3) We went to a hockey game @ Showare and watched daddy play on the ice beforehand.
4) We went to watch the Maple Valley Symphony to see kids playing instruments.
5) We went to Emerald Downs to watch the horses race and play in "Family Day" bouncy houses.
6) We went geocaching around Maple Valley and found some interesting "treasures"
7) We went to the driving range and practiced our golf swing. We even got a free golf club!
8) We went over to the disc golf range a couple times and loved it so much daddy bought a couple disc golf posts and set them up on our back forty. We even got our own frisbees.
9) We went to a drive-in movie down in Tacoma right next to the Tacoma Dome.
10)We spent a day in the city touring museums (SAM, Burke, MOHAI) and had burgers @ Dicks.
11) We went to Wild Waves twice w free tickets from finishing the Library's reading program.
12) We hiked to Franklin falls and spent a nice day scaling the rock walls and tossing rocks.
13) We went to the Fair. We got to see baby animals, go on rides and eat fair snacks!
We went up to stay at the Worldmark Blaine last weekend and are going to Worldmark Birch Bay (literally located next door) in two weeks as Aaron's points were set to expire anyway.
For Beckett's birthday this year we are doing a "Day about B". He decided the events of the day so we're starting with indoor skydiving and the family fun center, followed by lunch @ Red Robin and an AMC movie. Then we go to Chris' house for a birthday dinner. We surprised him this morning w a big box of Lucky Charms for his birthday cereal, streamers hanging @ his door, and a couple gifts.
Beckett has been doing much better at not wetting the bed but we consistently remind him to pee before bed. Ironically, he woke me up this morning at 4:26 (the exact moment he was born) and had wet the bed. Ugh, so we're not 100% there but it really is a rarity.
Beckett is growing through a growth spurt as he's constantly hungry and everyone is saying how tall he is. He seems to be secretly very smart, humorous, fearless, and easily excitable. Mommy loves that he still holds her hand and cuddles in bed w her in the morning.

Beckett is 7 1/2 years old and starting Spring quarter of first grade.
He has come home with straight 4's (scale is 1-4) both Fall and Winter term.
He seems to enjoy his teacher, his classroom, and being at school.
Beckett is taking a break from the Harry Potter series and transitioning to some classics (Hatchet, Charlotte's Web, A Wrinkle in Time) as well as attempting the Hardy Boys & Encyclopedia Brown. According to his report card he is reading at a Grade 3+ level :)
He is doing single digit addition/subtraction in class but is well versed on more challenging arithmetic thanks to listening to his older brother working through double digit math problems.
Last term we had a conversation about "transition" and how Sunday nights can be emotionally hard in preparing to be back at school after a weekend at home.
Beckett is in 1st/2nd Grade Spring soccer. He has Connor on his team and is being coached by Jacqueline Rigtrup. His team name is the "Cookies" and his jersey is an Aqua/Teal "Tropic Blue".
In spite of not being with Cru or Coach Skyler he seems to be enjoying the season which is a nice change from last season w Coach Jacqueline Galvin (who ironically is no longer coaching).
After a 2 week private swim class (last Summer) at Level 4, Beckett looked confident enough to discontinue lessons. He does just fine but tends to opt for the dog paddle rather than using alternative strokes. So daddy has laid down the gauntlet and said if he keeps using only the dog paddle, we'll need to get back into lessons.
The last 6 months have been full of adventure:
1) We hiked Mt Rainier w Uncle Aaron. We went as far as you can go before venturing to camp Muir.
2) We went to a Wallaby Ranch and got to pet real kangaroos and see baby Joey's inside them.
3) We had an adventure in the city at Discovery Park, the Arboretum and the Troll.
4) We went to see Tom Sawyer (Musical), Our Town & Miracle on 34th Street (Plays) and the Maple Valley Youth Symphony.
5) We did the Seattle Underground Tour while daddy ran the Seattle Marathon.
6) Daddy took B up to the ski hill but it wasn't the best experience. We're hopeful next Winter things go better and B can learn to ski as well as Hudson.
7) We got to go to a Thunderbirds hockey game and watch daddy play in the arena ahead of time.
8) We went to Flying Circus, Tubing @ Snoqualmie Pass and Wings Over Washington on the pier.
9) We had a couple fun trips as well: Coeur d'Alene (Oct), Disneyland/Legoland (Jan), Spring Break in the Methow (Apr).
Beckett had a field trip to Carco Theater in January and went to Surya's birthday party at the Covington Aquatic Center which was a first. We went to Great Wolf Lodge for Beckett's birthday.
Beckett has continued his streak of not wetting the bed and at this point it's fair to say we're beyond that stage. I wish we could say the same thing about puking. Last Fall on the way home from Hudson's soccer practice about a mile from home B lost it all over the back seat of the Subaru. Then again the night before we left for Spring Break in the Methow. Hudson got it twice too. Once on the way home from Great Wolf Lodge (again all over the back of the Subaru) and also the night before we left for Spring Break.
Beckett is a smart, funny, fearless, adventurous little man. He continues to have boundless energy and is definitely our wild child. "Wreck it Like Beckett" is real in our home.
Beckett's Current Favorites:
Colors: Blue
Book: Melvin Beaterman
Song: Summertime (Mungo Jerry)
Breakfast food: Waffles
Dinner food: Pork Chops
Number: 8 "whatever my next age is...."
